Also know as Frogtown, is nestled between Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. It is South of Historic Angels Camp and North of Sonora on Highway 49. The area's beauty rings through its rolling foothills. Calaveras County is home to 21 wineries and Calaveras Big Trees. The fairgrounds are located near New Melones Lake and Columbia State Park.

- The world-renowned Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee has a rich heritage dating back to the 1800’s. In the early Gold Mining Days, the Mother Lode Country was very prosperous attracting many industrious individuals looking for adventure. One such individual, Samuel Clemens, regularly made the trip from San Francisco to a small mountain cabin near Angels Camp. During one of these trips he heard a tale that inspired his first published work, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. Mr. Clemens first published this story in 1865 and used his pen name “Mark Twain”, and so the legend began. The adventure continues at the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, held annually the 3rd weekend in May.
